Rehkemper Specialty Lumber

How It Was Born

Construction costs are a significant challenge for developers. Wood, particularly with Hightype III construction, can significantly reduce costs while allowing for taller structures.

Type III construction utilizes non-combustible structural materials in exterior walls, which helps increase the building's fire resistance.

Here at Rehkemper, we love wood. However, building with wood does present challenges; specifically when building with pressure treated wood. To help mitigate these building challenges, we have integrated our own specialty lumber treatment division, bringing this very important process in-house for better control over supply and quality.

Before adding the treated line, we were experiencing long lead times that caused delay and held up projects. This is not only costly but frustrating for all parties involved. We were also constantly battling material loss due to mold, warping, twisting, splitting, and overall wood degradation.

With our revolutionized pressureless treatment technology, we have become more vertically integrated and no longer have issues with long lead times or those that arise from wood degradation.

This allows us to have better quality control in producing stronger, lighter, and more stable building components. It also allows us to be more cost effective on projects; lowering the overall building costs. Most importantly, it allows us to better serve our customers - the lifeline of our success.

TechWood

What It Is and How It Works

Techwood has revolutionized wood treatment by developing an innovative, pressureless treatment technology that provides protection from fire, mold, termites, rot, twisting, warping, splitting, and possible construction delays.

The pressureless treatment process fully penetrates the wood fiber through the process of agitation and diffusion. This process is much less invasive and does not degrade the structural integrity of the wood fiber. Pressure-treated processes force moisture and chemicals into the wood through a harsh process that not only destabilizes the wood but can also degrade the structural integrity by over 15%.

Our pressureless treatment process is completed in a controlled environment under strict quality control measures that are subject to quarterly third-party audits.

It has been tested, proven, and is certified as an IBC and IRC compliant product. The product has been tested and approved by DrJ - an ANAB accredited certification body. Of the 109 certification companies listed on ANAB’s website, DrJ is the only body that stands behind their certifications with a PE seal.

We at Rehkempers have four treatment varieties: 2200, 2200EX, 3300, and 4400.
